I’M LOVIN’ IT is the title of Zayde’s debut album, as well as the name of the character embodying the album’s ideas and qualities.  Zayde is so happy for you to meet this character and gain insight into its origins.  As with all videos on this page, he recommends enlarging the video screen to get the maximum effect!

Zayde’s debut album, i’m lovin’ it, features 12 songs ranging in subject matter from critiques on fast food (“King Burger”, “Hot ‘n Juicy”) to a story of teenage heartache (“Marisol”).  Live and in studio, Zayde performs his lyrics to the beat of progressive and originally composed electronic music.  His vocal delivery shifts between spoken word, singing, and speak singing.  The studio version of i’m lovin’ it marks Zayde’s first collaboration with musician/producer Universal Tongues, and reflects the meeting of their styles, sounds, and imaginations. Although i’m lovin’ it has yet to see official release, you can listen to (but not download) the entire work with the SoundCloud player above!

In this video, watch Zayde masquerade as Duncan, a Dunkin’ Donuts “employee” with a mouth full of product names, slogans, and taglines from the “coffee and baked goods retailer.”

With Hot ‘n Juicy, Zayde uses the marketing language of Wendy’s as a means to explore consumer desire and advertising’s conflation of food and sex.  Indeed, “the desires for sex and for food are joined at the root.” (Mary Eberstadt, Is Food the New Sex?)

“Publicity turns consumption into a substitute for democracy.” (John Berger, Ways of Seeing) As an example, in 2007 Mountain Dew launched DEWmocracy, the first soft drink “made by fans for fans.” In 2009, with the launch of DEWmocracy 2, Mountain Dew asked “fans to speak up, unite and help develop a brand new Mountain Dew.” Apparently, significant political choice has arrived, although, in the case of soda, our guts don’t seem to agree!
